Mary Jane Brunk, 95, of South Hutchinson, died April 8, 2024, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. She was born July 6, 1928, in Pratt, KS, to Owen and Ida (Haney) Hurt.
Mary Jane graduated from Inman High School in 1946. For over 60 years, she enjoyed making and selling ceramic sculptures. Mary Jane taught others how to sculpt ceramics. She would sculpt nativity scenes, cookie jars, and large frogs. Mary Jane loved to collect ‘Precious Moments.’
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mary Jane attended Journey@South Hutch.
After high school, she married and had one child with John R. Smith in Groveland, KS. He later died. On July 27, 1951, she married Ivan Brunk in Raton, New Mexico. They shared over 59 years of marriage before his death on January 14, 2011.
Mary Jane is survived by her son, Dennis Smith; stepson, Larry (Dorothy) Brunk; son-in-law, Orvin Miller; daughter-in-law, Nancy Brunk, all of Inman; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; step-daughter, Peggy Miller; step-son, Robert Brunk; step-granddaughter, Kelly Miller; and daughter-in-law, Joyce Smith.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2024, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Howard Wagler officiating. Burial will follow in North Inman Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
