
Roger Dean Schroeder, 72, died June 14, 2025, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born February 25, 1953, in Newton, to Menno George and Lavina Louise (Prieb) Schroeder.
Roger graduated in 1972 from Buhler High School; he later attended Sterling College. He worked at Buhler Mill as a miller for over 13 years and worked in machine maintenance at Tyson for over 20 years prior to his retirement. Each job Roger worked, he was always accompanied by his twin brother, Rodney. The two of them also did custom harvesting together for several years.
Roger loved spending time with his family and attending church. He also enjoyed woodworking, four-wheeling, whitewater rafting, and was very mechanical. Roger volunteered in Mexico at Children’s Haven International, an organization that aids underprivileged children. He attended church at New Hope Baptist Church.
On February 12, 2004, he married Sheryl, in Hutchinson. They shared 21 years of marriage.
Roger is survived by his wife, Sheryl Schroeder; his adult children, Jeremy Schroeder (Lynnette), Julie Paternoster (Tony), and Jamie Deering (Steve), and their mother, Marietta (Robinson) Schroeder who was married to Roger for 27 years; stepson Michael Boldt (Jennifer) and stepdaughter Christie Moye (Brian); grandchildren Katelyn Schroeder, Katy Truan (Eli), Grant Boldt (McKayla), and Allie Smith; great-granddaughter Magnolia Truan; as well as siblings Dale Schroeder (Phyllis), Jerry Schroeder, Harold Schroeder (Phyllis), Rodney Schroeder (Linda), and Jolene Snyder (Brad), as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. June 20, 2025, at New Hope Baptist Church, 4815 E. 4th Ave., Hutchinson, with Pastor Brian Lee officiating. The funeral service will be livestreamed on the New Hope Baptist Church Facebook page. Burial will follow in Buhler Municipal East Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Cancer Council of Reno County or New Hope Baptist Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
Roger will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness, encouragement and dedication to family will remain in our hearts forever.
