Evelyn R. Rose, 88, of South Hutchinson, KS, passed away peacefully June 22, 2023, at Hutchinson Hospice House.  She was born to John C. and Lona (Rehmert) Wight on January 14, 1935, in Fall River, SD.  Evelyn met and married Donald L. Rose of Lewis, KS, on June 7, 1953, in her hometown of Kinsley, KS.

Don and Evelyn spent a few years in Tucson, AZ and Tucumcari, NM while Don served in the United States Air Force before moving back to Dodge City, KS in 1962, where they raised three sons.  They were members of Dodge City First United Methodist Church and Evelyn volunteered many years for Dodge City Salvation Army Family Store. After Don’s retirement from the Federal Aviation Administration, Evelyn worked for Miller Elementary School at Dodge City USD 443 for 14 years.  In 2006, they moved to Mennonite Friendship Communities in South Hutchinson, KS, to be closer to family.

Love of family and faith were a tremendous part of Evelyn’s life, both of which she gifted to those around her.  She was an active member of South Hutchinson United Methodist Church for 17 years. 

Evelyn is survived by: sons, John (Cindy) Rose, Omaha, NE, Mike (Theresa) Rose, South Hutchinson, KS, and Tim (Lori) Rose, Lima, OH; grandchildren, Mike (Jenica) Rose, Lindsborg, KS, Marilee (Karl) Rutherford, Chicago, IL, Rob (Lindsey) Rose, Hutchinson, KS, Brian (Christi) Rose, Cumming, GA, Kristen (Nathan Runge) Rose, Sydney, NE, Scott (Amanda) Rose, Continental, OH, Eric (Dee Dee) Rose, Blacklick, OH, Paige Rose, Benton, MO, and Ben Rose, South Hutchinson, KS; thirteen great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Linda Rose, Lila Link, and Judy (Bob) Snyder, all of South Hutchinson, KS. 

Evelyn was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband of 56 years Don; grandsons, Paul Christopher Rose and John Timothy Rose; and brothers-in-law, Gail Link and Bud Rose.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, 206 East Avenue E, South Hutchinson, KS, with the Reverend Dr. John Blackwell officiating.  Burial will be 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Wayne Cemetery, 2049 J Rd, Lewis, KS, with the Reverend Mike Rose officiating.  Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2023, with the family present from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Elliott Mortuary.
