Orville “Bud” J. Werth, 88, formerly of Hutchinson, died peacefully August 11, 2025, at his home in Wichita. He was born October 18, 1936, in Ness City to Theodore and Adelaide (Leiker) Werth. Bud lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and a generous spirit towards others.
A 1954 graduate of Ness City High School, Bud went on to spend more than 40 years with Dillons, where he became known for his dedication and reliability. Fifteen years ago, he moved to Wichita to be closer to family – a decision that brought him countless moments of joy.
Bud was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Betty; caring for her until her passing in 2010. Together, they shared 53 years of marriage after being wed on June 8, 1957, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Larned.
He was a Kansas State Wildcat fan, an enthusiastic volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Wichita, and a man who took pride in keeping a well-manicured lawn. He could often be found sitting outside his home or apartment, coffee in hand, chatting with neighbors as they passed by. Above all, Bud treasured time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Bud’s faith was an important part of his life. He was a former member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Hutchinson, and, in recent years, a member of the Church of the Magdalen in Wichita.
Bud is survived by: children, Steve Werth (Julie) of Hutchinson, Debra Klein (Brad) of Houston, TX, Brad Werth (Belinda) of Wichita, Sharon Einheuser (Larry) of St. Augustine Beach, FL, and Carrie Zwick (Brad) of Wichita; 12 grandchildren, Matthew Werth (Elyse), Morgan Ward (Nick), Preston Klein (Brianna), Cody Werth, Andrew Werth, Sam Werth, Hannah Einheuser, Addie Einheuser, Kaeley Einheuser, Katie Fee (Tyler), Ryan Zwick (Cabrini), and Emily Talsma (Eric); 11 great-grandchildren, Bowen, Luke, and Annie Ward, Lyla and Vivian Werth, Kennedy, Grace, and Emma Fee, Ellie and Zuzu Zwick, and Wesley Talsma; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Bordewick of Seward; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Betty; sisters, Betty Weigel and Ruby Augustine; brothers, Art Werth and Al Werth, sisters-in-law, Julia and Cleo Werth and Viola Prosser; and brothers-in-law, Clarence Augustine, Kenneth Weigel, William Bordewick, and Frances Prosser.
Parish Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Church of the Magdalen, 12626 E. 21st St. N., Wichita, with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. Private burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
