KANSAS CITY—One person died in an accident just before 4a.m. Friday in Kansas City, Missouri.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a pedestrian was walking/standing between the #1 and #2 travel lanes of northbound Interstate 435 near NE 48th Street, according to KCPD Sergeant Phil DiMartion.
A northbound Peterbilt semi struck the pedestrian. The truck driver stopped immediately, remained at the scene, and cooperated fully with the investigation. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. The truck driver was uninjured in the crash. All lanes of northbound Interstate 435 were closed to traffic at Missouri 210 Highway for approximately 3 hours. The highway has since been reopened. This is fatality #51 compared to #50 at this time last year, according to DiMartino.
