HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Commissioners approved a contract Tuesday for a major bridge project for later this year. The county wants to replace the Cow Creek bridge that connects Willowbrook and Wilson Road.
King Construction of Hesston was the low bid on the bridge at $1,532,003. The new bridge will be a four-span, 226-foot long reinforced concrete bridge that will replace the current structure which is aging beyond its lifespan.
The bridge serves as the only access between Willowbrook and Wilson Road to the west. Because of that, the new bridge will be built adjacent to the old one and then the old one will be torn down. Reno County Public Works felt this would be better than a temporary road due to the unpredictable rise and fall of Cow Creek during bad weather.
Construction could start late this year, but will probably be some time in 2023, according to public works.
