HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council  approved the lease of a new fire truck. Chief Steven Beer says the truck will be located in the new fire station on North Main when it's finished.

“So the new station on North Main, instead of just having a single engine company it will have a battalion chief, it will have a truck company, it will have an engine company,” Beer said. “The reason for that is that it's our busiest station.”

The other reason for relocating the new ladder truck is the closer distance from the station to the Main Street Corridor. The new truck costs $1.5 million and will be a lease to purchase over ten years. Even though the yearly payments of $164,000 will be higher under the approved lease, Beer says the city will avoid a lump sum payment of around $300,000 at the end of ten years and will own the truck outright.

The tentative plan is to sell the truck at that time.
