HUTCHINSON, Kan. — LeAnn Cox with Visit Hutch said that the new hotel project in Hutchinson is staying on the same schedule that has been previously proposed.
"I have spoken with the developer as recently as this last week," Cox said. "The franchise has been obtained. At this point, the designers are working on the schematics and they are out of the Dallas market. We haven't seen anything yet. That will take a few months. The site plan has been shared, but it will be tweaked, so we don't know what that looks like quite yet."
They really hope to have everything ready for the 2025 NJCAA tournament.
"Ground will be broken, hopefully, this summer, with a completion date, as of right now, late 2024."
The convention piece will not be nearly as large as the Atrium was.
"In broad strokes, it's about 15,000 square feet on the meeting side of things," Cox said. "That's about half the size, Atrium was just a touch over 30,000, so we're not replacing what we lost with the convention center. There's definitely still a market that we are confident we can bring in."
It's not likely the large yearly conventions, but more the regional convention type of business that this facility will seek once it is in use.
