Rose Marie Garrigues |1930-2023|

Rose Marie Garrigues, 92 entered her heavenly home on Thursday, March 23, 2023. She was born May 19, 1930 at home in Cunningham, Kansas to Carl L. and Cecelia C. (Rohling) Epp. She graduated from Cunningham High School in 1948. Rose married Gerald R. Garrigues on December 28, 1955. They made Hutchinson their home after living a brief time in Alaska. Rose was a self-taught musician, playing the piano, organ, and accordion, along with other instruments. She played for local nursing homes and dances around the community for many years. Many times she rode the RCAT while carrying her electronic piano, even as an 80+ year old.  She was a long-time member of The Old Time Fiddlers and played the piano in The Leo Parker Band. She was active with the Elmdale Community Center, playing for dances and other activities. Rose volunteered for Meals on Wheels for many years. Music was Rose’s life, she continued to play the piano occasionally at Wesley Towers for the residents and staff, up to her time of passing.

Rose is survived by her four daughters Susan Buck (Charlie) Lawrence, Judy VanPelt of Hutchinson, Debra Nienke (Ron) of Hutchinson and Angela Westmoreland (Mark) of Cheney; 18 grandchildren: Mark Garrigues, Regan Buck-Bardeen, Christinia Caraway, Trina Ford, Julia Salazar, Ashlyn Lewis, Courtney Blank, Brandon Westmoreland, Mandy Tibbils, Wendy VanPelt, Chad Buck, Dawn Garrigues, Christian Wright, Brittany Greenhalgh, David Wright, Aaron Nienke Levi VanPelt and Daniel Greenhalgh, 17 great grandchildren and numerous foster grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald R Garrigues, her siblings: Joanne Svoboda, Isabel Govertt and Alvin Epp, her sons: Michael David and Steven Gerard Garrigues, stepsons: Ronald Wayne & Gerald Raymond Garrigues Jr., her grandson David Timothy Garrigues and granddaughter Christina Rose Wright.

Funeral service will be held 10:30 am, Friday, March 31, 2023 at Countryside Baptist Church, 819 W 30th, Hutchinson, Kansas.

Memorials can be made to Hospice and Homecare of Reno County or Countryside Baptist Church.
