MCPHERSON, Kan. — Two McPherson businesses are participating in the 2023 Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) Community Grants Program, which is now accepting applications until Sept. 5.

The businesses, Home Communications Inc. located at 211 S. Main St., and Mutual Telecommunications located at 209 N. Main St. are McPherson Chamber of Commerce members.

All applications must be submitted by an NTCA (The Rural Broadband Association) member on behalf of the community organization.

As part of its ongoing commitment to rural communities across the country, FRS offers aid for communities served by NTCA members through its annual Community Grants Program. These grants are designed to provide support to a variety of local efforts to build and sustain a high quality of life in the rural U.S.

Applications for these grants are accepted each spring and range from $250 to $5,000. The grants awarded each November support a variety of projects concentrated in four major categories.

The categories are business and economic development, community development, education, and telecommunications applications.

Grant recipients in 2022 included the McPherson Fire Department, which was awarded $5,000 to purchase two radio communication devices.

USD 419 Galva was awarded $5,000 to purchase boogie boards and tabletop charging stations for enhanced learning and activities.

Other businesses interested in applying for the program, can visit the Foundation of Rural Service website for more information.
