HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The annual Shop Local, Give Local event for the United Way is Thursday in Hutchinson.

"It's our third annual now," said Lisa Gleason with the United Way of Reno County. "We're excited about that. It came about because we were having a conversation with our then campaign chair, Amy Kraft, about how important it was to give locally during our campaign. She said, well, it's just like shopping local, how important that is, so that we support our hometown and support the things that are here."

The girls night out shopping event is from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Hall.

"We're going to have a lot of fun," Gleason said. "We're asking everybody to come out, be a part of it. At 6:15 p.m., there will actually be a fashion show and then we'll be drawing for a fun prize."

That prize is $250 in Hutch Bucks and you must be present to win. Tickets are $20 in advance online, or $25 at the door.

"Twenty percent of the sales will go to United Way," said campaign chair Carol Berger. "You can not only go out and have fun and enjoy all these wonderful boutiques, but part of that is coming back to United Way, to help support our campaign."

The campaign is attempting to reach a $1.25 million goal.
