Glenna Arlene Thompson, 85, of Hutchinson, KS went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Pleasant Hills Retirement Home, Hutchinson, KS.
Glenna was born on February 4, 1937 in El Dorado, KS, the daughter of Clyde and Treva Copeland. As a child, Glenna and family moved to Russell where after graduation became an X-ray technician at the Russell Hospital. She was united in marriage with her husband Robert on September 29, 1957 and moved to rural Natoma, KS where she was the backbone of the family farm helping in every way possible. After her husband’s death, Glenna moved to Hutchinson and worked as school cook and later became a teacher at Trinity Treasures, an after school program within the Trinity United Methodist Church. She was also an active volunteer for the Union Valley Bible Church. Being a farmer’s wife, Glenna loved being outdoors and being active in the lives of her family and church. To her family and friends, she was known for her courageous spirit, sense of humor and wit and for her cherry pies. But most of all, Glenna loved the Lord.
Surviving family include her sons, David Thompson (Dorothea) of Salina, KS; Mark Thompson (Donna) of Hutchinson, KS; sister, Karen Steinle of Bolivar, MO; 4 grandchildren, Garrett from Ackley, IA; Leah Beenken of Kansas City, MO, Danielle Workman of Pepper Pike, OH and Cameron of Hamilton, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert on February 26, 1986; brother, Jimmy Copeland and a sister, Barbara Flegler.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 23, 2022, at Russell City Cemetery, Russell, KS with Pastor Steve Hodgson officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave. Hutchinson, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to Union Valley Bible Church or Kindred Hospice and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel.
