Wallace Eugene “Wally” Farthing, 89, died October 11, 2025, at The Arbors at Waldron Place, Hutchinson. He was born on January 30, 1936, in Hutchinson, to Lewis Sylvester and Lulu Wavey (Trotter) Farthing.

Wally graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1954 and attended Hutchinson Community Junior College. He enlisted into the United States Army in 1958, serving for eight months. Wally worked at ADM Mill, Inman, for over 30 years, retiring as the supervisor of the mill. He enjoyed being the pitcher in his church’s softball league, as well as being a youth group leader. Wally was a Girl Scout Troop leader for his daughters’ troop. He enjoyed bowling with his bowling league on Thursday nights. Wally was a handyman and could fix everything that he worked on. He was an outdoorsman and loved spending time camping and fishing at Kanopolis Lake. Wally liked to hunt frogs, pheasants and quail. He had a servant’s heart; Wally loved to help everyone he met. Wally was a member of First Baptist Church, Hutchinson. 

On December 29, 1958, he married Sarah Ann Pankratz, in Buhler. They shared over 38 years of marriage, prior to her death on June 28, 1997.

Wally is survived by: his children, Gena (Tony) Jones of Olathe, Maria Farthing of Arkansas City, Andrea (Scott) Ward of Hutchinson, Neil Farthing of Wichita; grandchildren, Brent (Eve) Ward, Rachel Ward, Cameron Ward, Andrew Jones, Trevor Jones and Sarah Farthing; great-grandchildren, Zoe Ward, Kenzie Ward, Conner Ward, Emily Ward and Arcadia Farthing; four nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family members.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife; and brother, Howard Farthing.

Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2025, in Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. 4th Ave, with Pastor Ron Kyker officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Gentiva Hospice, American Heart Association or Alzheimer’s Association, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS, 67501.
