
Melvin Floyd Yoder, 101, passed away on January 30, 2025, at Mennonite Friendship Communities South Hutchinson, KS. He was born January 5, 1924, in Yoder, KS, the son of Enos S. and Lydiann (Bontrager) Yoder.
Melvin graduated from Haven High School in 1943. He worked at the former Detroiter Mobile Home Manufacturing Co. and farmed. He retired in 1991. Melvin married Viola “Vicky” M. Landes on October 12, 1947, in Nickerson, KS. They were married for 64 years before her passing in 2011. Melvin grew up in the Yoder and Reno County area. In 1952, Melvin and Vicky moved to Walker, MO for five years and then moved back to the Hutchinson area for 32 years. In 1989, they moved to Bella Vista, AR for eight years and then moved back to Reno County. Melvin and Vicky enjoyed traveling and he enjoyed spending his free time fishing. He was a member of Journey Mennonite Church and the South Hutchinson Lyons Club.
Survivors include four sons, Michael (Kay) Yoder, Hutchinson, Robert L. Yoder, Hutchinson, Ron (Sharon) Yoder, Hutchinson, and Jay (Lisa) Yoder, Partridge; eight grandchildren, Bryan Yoder, Darin Yoder, Jake Justice, Jesse Yoder, Jason Yoder, Tonya Vento, Tara Little, and Lacey Yoder; eight great grandchildren, Eli Yoder, Lydia Yoder, Vitaliy Stubbs, Ellie Todd, Ian Stubbs, Makayla Little, Makenzie Little, Landes Little; three great- great grandchildren with two on the way.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vicky; siblings, Sylvia Miller, Mary Kauffman, Homer Yoder, Elnora Cake and Doris Simpson.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Journey Mennonite Church, 808 S. Poplar, South Hutchinson, with Pastor Howard Wagler presiding. A private burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2025, with the family present from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to Mennonite Friendship Communities and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel.
