Hutchinson Fire Department

At 10:05 p.m. Thursday, Hutchinson Fire Department was dispatched to 545 East Ave A for a structure fire.

On arrival, fire units found fire coming out the top of the chimney. Crews made access into the structure and closed off the flue pipe to the chimney. Other fire crews went to the top of the roof and used dry chemical extinguisher to snuff the chimney fire out. The fire did get into a wall around the chimney. However, fire crews were able to make access to that quickly, so only minor damage was done to the wall.

The homeowner was home at the time, but no injuries occurred to residents or fire crews. The Hutchinson Fire Department would like to remind residents to have their chimneys cleaned and inspected for cracks.

They would like to thank the following agencies for their assistance in this incident, Hutchinson Police Department, Hutchinson and Reno County Emergency Communications, Reno Emergency Medical Services, Kansas Gas, and Evergy.
