Week of the Young Child

RENO COUNTY — The Week of the Young Child is April 15-20 and it is full of events in Hutchinson for those with little ones.

The events begin on Monday, April 15 at Cosmosphere, with free admission to the Hall of Space Museum, Cosmokids, the Justice Planetarium and Dr. Goddard's Lab from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

The Reno County Infant-Toddler Program will host a playgroup on Monday evening, April 15 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Becker Park in Buhler. Explore the park, blow bubbles and color with chalk at Ave. A and Buhler Road.

Tuesday, April 16 has an Open House at the Early Education Center at 303 East Bigger from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

There will also be a special storytelling time at the Hutchinson Public Library from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16.

Wednesday, April 17 will have the Parents as Teachers playgroups from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at 200 East Sherman for kids birth to 5 and their families.

There will be a special event to learn all about owls at the Dillon Nature Center from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17. The event is free.

An outside playgroup will be going on in Haven on Thursday, April 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Engweiler Park. Explore the park, blow bubbles and color with chalk on North Salina Ave. 

Thursday, April 18 has an Open House at the Early Education Center at 303 East Bigger from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Thursday, April 18 will have Third Thursday downtown with events for the whole family from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Friday, April 19 will have a Child Abuse Prevention parking lot party at 1700 East 11th at the Department for Children and Families office from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a Safe Shop clinic, cribettes available, children's games with prizes, hot dogs, chips, drinks and treats. 

At the Reno County Museum on Friday, April 19 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 100 South Walnut, there will be a historic toy exhibit, art activities and time in the children's area, the Oodleplex.

Saturday, April 20 the movie The Little Mermaid will be playing at the Fox Theatre in Hutchinson for free at 2 p.m., or you can go out to the Hutchinson Zoo from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to explore the prairie dog tunnel, dinosaur dig, reptile and amphibian exhibit and enjoy a free train ride on the Prairie Thunder railroad.
