Suspect in arson fire near historic Kan. theatre faced a judge

SEDGWICK COUNTY —A suspect accused in connection with a fire near the Orpheum Theatre, 200 N Broadway Street, in Wichita  made his first court appearance Wednesday.

Jeremy Wycoff, 33, Wichita, was charged with aggravated arson and arson, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office. 

On the evening of April 10, crews responded to report of a fire near the 102-year-old theatre that is undergoing renovations. 

"Thanks to the quick response of Wichita Fire Department, the situation was contained before it caused any major damage to our building or our neighbors along First Street," the theatre announced on their social media page.

Police arrested Wycoff on Sunday and booked him into the Sedgwick County Jail.   His next court appearance (PH-CAD) is April 28. He remains jailed on  a 150,000 bond, according to the district attorney's office.
