HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County commissioners have released a statement clarifying their position on public comment during agenda sessions. The comments follow action taken by the board to move meetings to just twice per month.
The statement released by the county will still allow five minutes for comment on a subject that is not on the agenda for action. The public comment is for making short and concise comments to the governing body. Registration to speak will be made at the beginning of the meeting with a sign-up sheet. Anyone wanting to speak can also register at least one day before the meeting at administratoroffice@renogov.org.
If there is a meeting that has large amounts of public comment requests, the comment period may be shortened to three minutes per person. Additional restrictions may be applied to those who speak on a routine basis. The commission may also limit the number of speakers that are repeating the same comments as previous speakers.
The commission may, but is not required or expected to, respond to any public comment.
