Japan has asked the United States for a complete exemption from tariffs. The White House said no to a complete elimination but would consider the option for a reduction.
Right now, Japan pays a 14 percent tariff on cars, aluminum and steel sold to the United States, and charges 15 percent tariff on all United States agriculture products going into Japan
