Patient dies in ambulance crash near Kansas City

KANSAS CITY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an accident that left one dead and two injured following an ambulance crash in Johnson County, Missouri.

Just after 4p.m. Sunday, police responded to the grass median between north and southbound U.S. 71 at Bannister Road, according to Kansas City Police.

The driver of a Johnson County, Missouri ambulance lost control of the vehicle while traveling in the No. 2 lane of travel on the Bannister Road overpass.

 The ambulance left the road and rolled, according to KCPD. A patient on board was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Two Emergency Medical Technicians were transported to an area hospital.

Johnson County Ambulance Chief Shane Lockard reported in a media release "both EMTs were recovering after the tragic accident. Please keep the friends and family of our patient in your hearts as we mourn their loss." The accident remains under investigation.
