HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Zoo and Hutchinson High School Thespian Club will host a Haunted Zoo on Oct. 27-29. It will be open from 6-8:30 p.m. 0n Friday and Saturday and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday.
Friends of the Zoo Administrator Hannah Grace said in the past the event was called "Little Train of Horrors." The event previously took place on the zoo's train.
"We wanted to make sure they got the same amount of money or at least close to, so we decided to change it to a Haunted Zoo so we could get more people through the building," said Grace.
The Thespian Club will be in charge of the haunted zoo's storyline and will provide the actors. Grace said it's similar to a haunted house and to expect jump scares and spooky kids in cages.
There will also be a family-friendly zone for children under age 10 or those wanting a less "spooky" experience with extra lighting. Crafts and a possible mini show will take place.
"We decided that because it's a little bit more up in your face... you are not on the train where people can't really touch you or get close to you... that we wanted to make sure that there was a space for the younger kids to go," Grace said.
The Haunted Zoo's entrance will be located to the right past the discovery building. The family-friendly haunted zoo will be in the mini farm.
Tickets are $6 for the haunted zoo and $3 for the family-friendly space. The funds for the Thespian Club will help students attend their yearly conference.
