
Darlene Elaine (Funk) McVey was born September 18, 1936, in Kansas City, Kansas, and adopted a week later by Ferdinand and Agnes Funk. She passed away November 28, 2023, in Goessel, Kansas. Darlene grew up on a farm near Goessel with her older brother, LeRoy. At an early age, her father passed away. Later, Agnes married George Janzen and added three siblings to the family.
Darlene was baptized May 28, 1950, at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church, rural Goessel. After graduating from Goessel High School in 1954, she moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where she obtained a nursing degree and worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 47 years. She married Frank Stoebick on April 14, 1956. They divorced in 1968, and she married Jimmie McVey in 1972. He died May 6, 2014. She lived in Peru, Indiana, for about 30 years before moving to Bethesda Home in Goessel in October.
Darlene will be remembered for her cheerful, optimistic spirit and her courage and resiliency during challenging times.
Survivors include two sons, Terry (Saundra) Stoebick and Jason (Connie) McVey; four grandchildren, Jason Jr., Ashli, Bathory and Gianna McVey; one great-grandchild; and stepbrother Gerald Janzen. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, her brother, a stepbrother and stepsister, a stepson and two stepdaughters.
