FORD COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating after gunfire, a high speed chase and fatality in Ford County.
Just after 10p.m. Thursday, police officer in Dodge City learned of a driver in a red pickup discharging a firearm toward another occupied vehicle, according to a media release.
The officer quickly located the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop; however, the driver fled, leading to a pursuit.
The pursuit entered Wyatt Earp Boulevard and continued west out of the city limits. Ford County Sheriff’s deputies assisted as the pursuit continued north on 105 Road, ultimately ending in a field.
Upon making contact, deputies located the driver with what appears to be a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound. No officers or deputies discharged their firearms during the incident.
