Dennis L. Atkinson, 76, of Hutchinson, died September 8, 2026, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born April 10, 1950, in Hutchinson, to William and Luella (Pauls) Atkinson.
Dennis graduated from Hutchinson High School with the class of 1968. He was a lifelong construction worker and started his career working with his father. Eventually, Dennis and his brother bought the family business and were co-owner of A&A Builders for over 50 years.
He was a gifted craftsman who brought wood to life with his hands. Dennis appreciated being outside every moment he could. He enjoyed being at the lake and loved boating. Dennis was an avid bowler and enjoyed a good round of golf. He had a large heart for animals and especially loved his dogs.
In 1973, he married Cheryl Kay Plummer, in Hutchinson. They shared 45 years together before her death on December 4, 2018.
Dennis is survived by: son, Neil Atkinson of Hutchinson; siblings, Bob Atkinson of Spokane, WA, LuAnn (Darren) Wicks of Hutchinson, Bill (Marilyn) Atkinson of Hutchinson; companion, Stacy Taylor; grandchildren, Jacey Trower, Morgan Atkinson, Kaylynn Atkinson, Emma Atkinson, Easton Atkinson, and Casen Atkinson; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: parents; wife, Cheryl Atkinson; and grandson, Luke Atkinson.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may sign his book 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary.
