Lawrence “Larry” O. Smith, Jr., 88, a McPherson, KS resident since 1976, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023.
Larry was born on April 21, 1935, in Henderson, TN, the son of Lawrence O. Smith, Sr. and Bessie (Andrews) Smith. He was raised in Van Vleet, MS. Larry graduated from Mississippi State University in 1963. On August 6, 1960, Larry was united in marriage to Nancy June Ledbetter in Henderson, TN.
Larry served in the United States Army during the Korean War era. He retired from a pharmaceutical company, Sanofi-Winthrop/Abbott Labs, in McPherson.
Survivors include: his loving wife of 63 years, Nancy; two sons, Blair (Casey) Smith of Olathe, KS and Clint (Melissa) Smith of McPherson, KS; five grandchildren, Carson Olivia Smith of Tulsa, OK, Sawyer Henry Smith of Kansas City, KS, Garrett Lane Smith of Olathe, KS, Harper Elizabeth Smith of McPherson, KS, and Ashton Cole Smith of Olathe, KS; sister, Sarah Wyatt of Jonesboro, AR; and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Loren Dale Smith.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Friday, September 1, 2023, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 9:30 AM, Saturday, September 2, at McPherson Church of Christ. Burial with Military Honors will follow at McPherson Cemetery.
