
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Two Memorial Day services are planned for Monday, May 27.
The annual Reno County Veterans Memorial ceremony is set for 9 a.m. at the memorial in South Hutchinson.
That ceremony will begin with the presentation of the colors by the American Legion Riders Post 68.
The Hutchinson Brass Quintet will perform the National Anthem.
An opening prayer will be given by Chaplain Dave Warnken, followed by opening remarks from Veterans Memorial board member Matt Mock.
The placement of the memorial wreaths will be done by the American Legion and the American Legion Riders, and a second musical selection will be played by the Brass Quintet.
The Memorial Day Address will be given by Lysle Rishel Post 68 Commander Joe McCarville, then Amazing Grace will be played.
Warnken will list Legion Post 68 members who have died in the past year and a closing prayer will be given by Post 68 Auxiliary Chaplain Susan Branson.
The Brass Quintet will then play Taps and the colors will be retired.
The second service, the Memorial Day Ceremony will start at 11 a.m. at Eastside Cemetery in Hutchinson.
A welcome message will be given by McCarville, with the flag presentation by the Post 68 Color Guard. Warnken will give an opening prayer, and the Hutchinson Municipal Band will play the anthem.
Taps and placement of the wreaths will take place with the band, the Amvets Post 11 Women's Auxiliary, VFW Post 1361, American Legion Post 68 and the Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion and American Legion Riders from the Post, along with the Daughters of the American Revolution.
McCarville will then speak on The Meaning of Memorial Day.
The Hutchinson Municipal Band will play the Armed Forces Medley, and a message will be delivered by Warnken, along with a remembrance of Post 68 members who have died in the past year.
Grant Bowman with VFW Post 1361 will provide the same honor for those who have died from their Post.
Branson will provide the closing prayer, the colors will be retired, and the band will play a closing number.
Immediately following the 11 a.m. service at Eastside, a luncheon will be served at the American Legion at 720 West 4th Ave. All guests are invited to attend.
