CRAWFORD COUNTY, Kan. — The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating an unusual animal reported on the loose: a kangaroo.
In a lighthearted social media post, the sheriff’s office said residents who spot the animal should contact authorities so deputies can notify its owner. Officials emphasized that the public should not attempt to approach or capture the kangaroo.
“Don’t approach it,” the post warned, noting the animal could become aggressive. The message referenced videos of kangaroos “squaring up like a boxer,” underscoring the potential risk of injury.
Authorities have set up what they jokingly referred to as a “kangaroo locator hotline” at 620-724-8274 for sightings.
It’s unclear how the kangaroo ended up loose or how long it has been in the area. Deputies are working to safely locate the animal and return it to its owner.
