
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Salthawks baseball team dropped two games to the Newton Railers on Wednesday at Hobart-Detter Field. The Salthawks lost the opener 13-3, before falling in the night cap 6-3.
The Salthawks are now 0-4 on the season, while Newton improves their record to 5-1.
Hutch trailed 5-3 going into the top of the seventh inning before the Railers scored eight runs to put the game out of reach. Jack Yoder collected a pair of hits for the Salthawks who were held to just five hits total for the game. The defensive effort struggled, committing three errors in the contest.
Newton jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning after the Salthawks committed three errors helping lead to those runs. Although Hutch was held to just one hit (bunt single) through the first six innings, the Salthawks only found themselves down 4-3 after six complete. The Railers added on two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh to lead 6-3, before the Salthawks went down in order to end the game.
The Salthawks return to the diamond on Tuesday when they will travel to Maize South. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. and can be heard on Hutch Post and the NFHS Network.
