HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Commissioners will take action on a resolution that would take the proposal to expand from three to five seats on the board to a public vote when they meet on Tuesday. That vote would happen in November.

The commission has been discussing the expansion for several months now. The board feels more representation would be provided with the expansion and the ability to discuss matters outside of meetings would also be available without violating open meeting laws.

Also Tuesday the board will take action on two bids for new bridges on Arlington Road. The bid on the first bridge in the city of Arlington is from King Construction of Hesston at $1,117,096. The 196 foot span over the Ninnescah River is being paid for with a combination of county funds and K-Dot. The county’s share of the cost is $558,548. The second bridge is located eight miles east of Arlington. King Construction is also the winning bid for the project at $820,054. The county’s share of the costs is $620,054. The rest of the funds for the project will come from the Kansas Local Bridge Improvement Program.

And the board will continue to discuss the Scott Blvd. bridge in South Hutchinson. The city of South Hutchinson and the county are in disagreement over ownership of the bridge, which needs to be replaced.

Tuesday’s meeting of the Reno County Commission begins at 9 a.m. at the Reno County Annex. The meeting will be followed by a joint meeting with the Hutchinson City Council to discuss various shared agreements between both law enforcement departments. That meeting is set for 11:30 a.m.
