Michael J. "Mike" McGuire |1943-2024|

Michael J. "Mike" McGuire, 81, passed away Friday, August 23, 2024 at Hilltop Manor in Cunningham. He was born on March 11, 1943 in Nashville to Michael Donald and Vivian Marie McGuire. Michael married Judith Kay "Judy" (Strong) McGuire on August 24, 1968 in Isabel. She preceded him in death on October 4, 2013.

Mike graduated from Nashville High School. He attended Sterling College on a basketball scholarship. Mike enlisted and served four years in the United States Air Force. He attended Pratt Junior College and then went back to Sterling College where he played football and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education. He taught high school social studies and physical education at Montezuma and Attica and coached football, basketball and track. He also coached basketball at Sharon. He went on to pump oil wells for Pete's Pumpers and then became a farmer. He was a member of the Co-op Coffee Crew. He enjoyed watching sporting events, fishing, playing slow pitch softball, running cattle and farming, and following his grandchildren on their endeavors.

He is survived by his children, Lance (Amy) McGuire of Cunningham, Clint (Angie) McGuire of Claflin, Wade (Heidi) McGuire of Hays and Kristal (Oliver) Sparks of Paola; sister, Jill (Bill) Watkins of Kingman; and grandchildren, Alayna, Luke, Ellie, Liam, Carly and Jalynn McGuire, Cali (Tyler) Cronister, Hunter, Madison and Reese McGuire, Austin, Alex and Ian McGuire, Brady, Leah, Faith and Mason Sparks.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judy; sister, Marcia Koeppen; and brother, Criss McGuire.

Visitation will be Friday, August 30, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., at Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge.  Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2024 at First Christian Church Medicine Lodge with Pastor Tom Walters presiding. Burial with military honors will follow at Sharon Community Cemetery, Sharon.
