SHAWNEE COUNTY —One person died in an accident just after 4p.m. Wednesday in Shawnee County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2025 Ram 1500 driven by James D. Ulmer, 50, Leavenworth, was eastbound on U.S 24 one mile east of Northwest Humphrey Road attempting to pass vehicles. The pickup struck a westbound 2023 Kia Soul driven by Dakota J. Bacon, 23, Topeka, head-on.
Bacon was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Forensic Medical in Kansas City. EMS transported Ulmer and a passenger in the Kia William C, Robertson III, 28, Topeka, to Stormont Vail. All three were properly restrained, according to the KHP.
