Interim City Manager Mary Grace Clements released the announcement of a permanent Police Chief hire late Monday afternoon. The announcement is below.
I'm honored and delighted to announce Interim Chief Brice Burlie has accepted my offer to become our permanent Chief of Police for the Hutchinson Police Department. Since agreeing to serve as Interim Chief in June 2023, he has proven himself to be a highly capable leader. I am confident his proven leadership skills, combined with his extensive police experience, drive, and strong work ethic, make him the right candidate to meet our city's needs.
Chief Burlie began his law enforcement career with the Hutchinson Police department and has twenty-four years of experience, beginning as a recruit and working his way up through the ranks to Operations Captain. He holds a bachelor's degree in Criminology and Sociology from Kansas State University and has undergone extensive command-level training from Wichita State University, Kansas University, and Northwestern University. Additionally, he was selected by the FBI to attend Session 291 of the FBI National Academy. These qualifications and experience have equipped him with the essential knowledge and skills to make informed and rational decisions as our next Chief of Police.
Brice's unwavering dedication to our entire community has been a key to his success. He is a lifelong Hutch resident and he, along with his wife Staci, have a son and 2 daughters.
I'm very optimistic about the future of the police department under Chief Burlie's leadership.
Please join me in congratulating and thanking Brice as he takes this important next step in his career.
