HUTCHINSON, Kan. — David Foster is a little over a year in at the Hutchinson YMCA and he is pleased with the progress the location has made so far.
"We became the 11th full facility branch of the Greater Wichita YMCA," Foster said. "We were able to provide several wage increases for our staff here that maybe weren't on par with what our other branch locations were getting paid, so we were able to do two market rate adjustments over the course of the past year and we did a five percent cost of living adjustment last December. Moving forward, we will do annual merit reviews with the possibility for increases, as well."
The membership rates for Hutchinson members were also actually lowered slightly to put them in line with the other Wichita area branches.
"Our membership is doing quite well," Foster said. "We finished May with a little over 2000 total membership units, which translates out to a little over 4600 total members. Just to give you a little bit of background, or something to compare that to, right after COVID, we had about 2000 members at the Y here in Hutchinson. We've been able to more than double that."
Also, membership in Hutch now entitles members to use any of the 10 other Wichita area branches.
"The closest other one would be either the Newton Y or the Northwest Y, which is out in the Maize area, which also has a waterpark," Foster said. "We have four waterpark branches, Andover, Northwest, South and North. You can get in free with your membership at any of those locations, not only to use the Y, but also to use the waterpark or any of the other amenities that they afford."
