HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Fire Chief Steven Beer said the new station on North Main is helping get his people to fire scenes faster.
"I don't have a full year's worth of data," Beer said. "I can tell you that before we moved the ladder truck up from 11th and Halstead, if we had a fire west of Main Street, that ladder truck took over 10 minutes to get on scene. I can tell you right now our ladder trucks are on scene within probably four to five minutes anywhere in the city now."
The North Main station gets the majority of calls in Hutchinson.
"Having that second apparatus to take the secondary calls that come in that area has been priceless," Beer said. "We're just starting the reaccreditation process and starting to run some numbers on everything and we'll have a lot of data coming forward."
The one year anniversary of the dedication of the station is Saturday.
