HUTCHINSON, Kan. — With thousands of people still without power Monday, Evergy posted online the way it works through which areas to fix first. That information is below:

Here’s how our teams work through these storms:

Prioritization of Repairs: We work to restore power to the largest number of customers quickly and prioritize critical infrastructure. If main lines need repairs, crews will work on those first as they are necessary to get power delivered into neighborhoods.

Assessment and Damage Evaluation: Our crews will identify the causes of an outage and inspect affected infrastructure. We’ll deploy crews to work to restore power after assessment is done.

Here's how you can stay safe during a power outage during a severe storm:

Community Support: People come first. Check on your neighbors, especially those who may need extra assistance like the elderly or disabled.

Downed power lines: Please stay at least 35 feet away from downed power lines or limbs on lines. Please do not try to remove tree limbs or brush from downed lines or anywhere near power lines. Please assume that any downed line is energized. If you have an emergency, please call 911.

Stay Informed: Keep your phone charged. Follow updates from local authorities and your utility company for restoration times and safety advice.

Smart Food Management: Avoid opening refrigerators and freezers frequently to keep food cold longer. Have non-perishable snacks accessible.

Backup Plans: If you have a generator, use it safely, following manufacturer guidelines. Ensure proper ventilation to prevent carbon monoxide buildup.
