
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Police posted on social media to remind the public with school starting this week that if a school bus has its red flashing lights on and stop sign extended, then all vehicles going both directions on an undivided road must stop until the bus turns off its red lights and retracts its stop sign.
Violating this law is subject to a citation of $315 in the city of Hutchinson.
STO. 81. Overtaking and Passing School Bus.
(a) The driver of a vehicle meeting or overtaking from either direction any school bus stopped on the highway shall stop before reaching such school bus when there is in operation on the school bus the flashing red lights specified in subsection (a) of Section 170, and the driver shall not proceed until such school bus resumes motion or the flashing red lights and the stop signal arm are no longer actuated.
