NEWTON, Kan. — The Sand Creek Summer Daze Festival returns to Athletic Park in Newton on July 12 and 13. Save the date and get ready to "Take Flight" at Sand Creek Summer Daze! You don't want to miss this spectacular festival of aviation-themed entertainment, delicious food, and community spirit. It will be a weekend filled with high-flying excitement and unforgettable experiences, featuring both old favorites and new events:
BBQ IS BACK! - Public tasting Friday night, competition Saturday
Kickstart the festival with a savory adventure at the public BBQ tasting on Friday night. Join us as we showcase the best barbecue flavors, igniting your taste buds for the thrilling weekend ahead. Friday night (July 12) features a one-meat rib competition and a public tasting with contest from 5-7 p.m. Things really heat up Saturday, July 13 for the Masters Series Competition and Backyard Competition. Awards will be given out at 3p.m.
BATTLE OF THE BADGEZ - Harvey County fire departments v. law enforcement charity kickball game
Join the friendly rivalry on Friday night as the heroes of Harvey County face off in the Battle of the Badgez kickball game.Win or lose, it’s all for a good cause, this charity event is a fantastic way to support the community.
HARD REDZ IS BACK! - Enjoy an adults-only Saturday afternoon sip
Back by popular demand, Saturday afternoon returns the HARD REDZ Summer Brew-off: a great way to celebrate the Craft Brewing and Wheat Heritage in Kansas. The Hard Redz Summer Brew-off connects craft brewing to Newton’s economic roots in wheat-growing. The Sand Creek Summer Daze Festival and local home brewers have partnered to create an event that explores these two industries. To enter and sample (as a VIP Judge), you must pay $10 fee at the gate. Your entry judging packet will allow you to sample and vote on your favorite home brewed beer.
TRIAL BY FIRE - Journey Tribute Band for the Hot Summerz Night Saturday concert
The festival weekend all culminates on Saturday night with "Trial By Fire," a Journey tribute band that will transport you through the greatest hits of the iconic rock band. Prepare to let TRIAL BY FIRE take you back to an earlier day when lighters were held high, and you couldn’t help but sing along to such powerful choruses as “Don’t Stop Believin’”, “Wheel in the Sky”, “Lights”, “Separate Ways” and “Faithfully.”
Along with these exciting attractions, expect all your typical festival favorites, including the Time Out 4 Kidz area, stages in the round, food vendors and competitions (all events are subject to change).
