Jerry Ancil Gates, 79, of South Hutchinson, died December 5, 2024, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born May 9, 1945, in Beloit, KS, the son of Ancil and Fern Eloise (Broadbent) Gates. 

Jerry acquired the love of tinkering with cars during his early years, he would rebuild and resell vehicles with his father. He worked at Anderson-Prichard Oil Company (APCO) on 6th street and Monroe for most of his life where he cultivated his love for automobiles. Jerry faced many physical challenges through life but was always strong in the face of pain and uncertainty. He was an inspiration to those around him for his positive attitude and ability to look on the bright side. Jerry was a prankster and took every opportunity to bring about a good joke. He was well known for his humor and his jokes will be greatly missed. 

Jerry is survived by: son, Brian (Steffany) Gates; daughters, Lana (Charles) Richmond, Kari (Adam) Fairbanks, all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Daniel, David, Brooklyn, Ethan, Evan, Hayely, Boston, Brandy, Nathan, Brian Jr., Kiara, Ezekial, and Kalib; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Van (Sue) Gates of Wichita; sister, Jeanne Lowe of North Carolina; nieces, Valery, Julie, and Cheryl. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Chester Lowe. 

Cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice House, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
