Clarification: The permit needed for ground mounted solar is obtained through the county planner, as opposed to a Conditional Use Permit, which would require planning commission approval. Hutch Post regrets the error.
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Board of County Commissioners on Wednesday approved an extension to the moratorium on Commercial Solar Energy Project development that was due to expire at the end of the month.
Though the process is mostly complete, there is still more to be done by the planning commission, and so they extended the moratorium on commercial solar until December 1, but if the planning commission gets its work done before then, the board could take it back up to remove it sooner.
The commission also clarified in the extension that all residential solar is allowed at this point, but ground mounted would need an additional permit as an accessory use.
