JACKSON COUNTY, Kan. —Law enforcement are investigating two suspects including a Kansas felon, released from prison last week, on multiple allegations after a hit-and-run chase in rural Jackson County.
Just after 4a.m. August 2, a 2019 Toyota Camry traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 75 missed the exit to the Prairie Band Casino at 150th Road, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.
The driver attempted to turn around at 158th Road and, while re-entering the highway to travel southbound, allegedly collided with the rear of a southbound semi-trailer causing extensive front end damage to the Camry. The Camry allegedly fled the scene without stopping. The semi driver was not injured.
After leaving the crash scene, the Camry exited at 150th Road, allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign, and turned east onto 150th Road. A Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver allegedly refused to stop, initiating a pursuit.
During the pursuit, the driver allegedly turned off the vehicle’s headlights and continued eastbound on 150th Road at a high rate of speed. Approximately one-quarter mile east of S Road, the Camry left the roadway, entered the ditch, struck a large limestone rock, and came to rest in the roadway.
The driver was later identified as Logan Lee Able Bartley, 27, of Topeka. He allegedly ran from the crash. The rear-seat passenger was identified as Destainy Alashanae Herrick, 27, of Topeka, and the front-seat passenger was identified as Braeden John Charles Hill, 23, of Topeka.
With assistance from a Kansas Highway Patrol aircraft, deputies located Bartley in the vicinity of the scene. He was taken into custody without incident at approximately 8:50 a.m.
All occupants of the Camry refused medical treatment.
Logan Lee Able Bartley who was recently released from the Department of Corrections on July 28, 2026, was arrested on requested charges of Fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer by engaging in reckless driving, Interference with a law enforcement officer by knowingly fleeing on foot in a felony case, Leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage exceeding $1,000, Failure to stop at a stop sign, Criminal damage to property ($1,000 to $25,000), Operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license. He has previous convictions for burglary, theft, aggravated assault and battery, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.
