Mary Lou Showalter, 93, died September 10, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, with her two daughters by her side. She was born January 18, 1931, in LaGrange, IN, to Joseph J. and Fannie (Schrock) Yoder.
Mary Lou graduated from Partridge High School in 1948. She enjoyed playing cards at Pizza Ranch, eating at Spangles with her church friends, cooking for large groups, and making her amazing coconut cream pies. Mary Lou was a member of South Hutchinson United Methodist Church and active in the United Methodist Women. Above all, Mary Lou treasured spending time with her family and friends.
On December 30, 1949, she married Leigh Showalter. He died March 19, 2009, after they shared almost 60 years of marriage.
Mary Lou is survived by: daughters, Jenny Fry (Tim) of Hutchinson and Mary Jane Terry (Steve) of Derby; grandchildren, Andy Fry (Pat), Julie Wagner (Ryan), Emily Wolcott (Brad), and Katie Boyer (Chad); nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Michael; son-in-law, Mike Kretzer; three brothers; and three sisters.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 16, 2024, at South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, 206 E. Avenue E, South Hutchinson, with the Reverend Mike Rose officiating. A family graveside service will take place prior to the service in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
