Eugene Merrill Hall, “High Side”,73, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024 in Eldorado, KS.

A lifelong resident of Hutchinson, Ks  High Side worked for a time as a machinist at Cessna and then at Reno Machine in South Hutchinson where he was valued for his ability to keep any older equipment running at a productive pace.

A member of the Sons of Silence MC for over 35 years, he was known in his neighborhood as the “go to guy” for local youngsters bicycle repairs and advice on chain adjustments. 

High Side had a 25-year union with Lonna Hall, also of Hutchinson, where he raised three daughters, Diana Gilbert-Johnmeyer, Marissa Ward Boese and Margo Argo. In addition, he mentored grandson’s Jacob, Sean and Malachi. He often mentioned the best way to stop unwanted solicitation phone calls was to answer and hand the phone to the talking toddler in the playpen. He considered that the best way to ensure he was taken off the call list.

High Side married Debra Hall “Sonnie” of Texas in April, 2011. They made their home in Arlington, Kansas where he worked for Bontdrager Custom Cabinets. Having joined the Abundant Life Church after following the example of his former wife Lonna, he studied the ministry and was ordained by Bishop Quintin Moore. He often joined the morning Bible Study group with his co-workers and neighbors in Arlington prior to starting the days labor.

High Side became the Chaplain of the Sons of Silence MC after his ordination. In his travels with the club, he mentored his brothers and persons of all religious affiliations and various club memberships. Well known and much loved, his influence and quick wit will be remembered and cherished by all who were fortunate enough to meet him.

High Side was preceded in death by his parents Velsa and Verda Hall, an infant son Samuel John Hall and two grandsons, Jude Argo and William Robert Samson. 

High Side is survived by his wife, Debra Hall, “Sonnie” and her son Jack Cameron. Daughters, Diana and Alex Johnmeyer of Odessa, MO. Sadie Hall Samson of Stratton, NE, Marissa and Jimmy Boese of Castle Rock, CO and Margo Argo and Ciaran Page, Hutchinson. Granddaughters, Olivia Samson, Natalie Galliart,  Celynn Griffith and Lincoln Johnmeyer. Grandsons Seth Samson and Wyatt Samson, Jacob Lewis, Sean Lewis, Malachi Lewis and the newest family member Cian Page born January 26, 2024. 

Funeral services will be held February 17th, 2024 at 10:30 AM at The Fathers House, 1505 E. 20th Ave.  Hutchinson KS 67502 with Quintin Moore officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park, 5905 W 4th Ave., Hutchinson KS 67501. With a reception following at The Fathers House. 

A Wake will be held at the Sons of Silence Club House.
