GOODLAND, Kan. — Kernan Bundy registered his biggest scoring night as a Blue Dragon Wednesday against Northwest Tech.
Before the road matchup with the Mavericks, Bundy's highest-scoring game (17 points) came Nov. 9 against Division II Labette.
Bundy dropped 28 and nailed 5 of 11 three-pointers in the narrow victory.
Hutchinson (11-5, 5-5) jumped out to an eight-point lead against Northwest Tech (7-7, 3-6) before three minutes expired from the clock.
The Mavs took a five-point lead of their own just six minutes before the break.
Hutchinson used those final minutes to flip the score again and went into the locker room up 48-41.
The game went down to the wire as the Mavs pulled within two in the final minute.
The Mavericks had a chance to tie the game at the charity stripe with 18 seconds left. However, Taiden Conner hit just one of his two free throw attempts.
NW Tech was then forced to foul Hutchinson's Ra'Sean Frederick, who hit both of his bonus opportunities. Frederick finished with nine points and six rebounds.
Both teams would battle it out at the line for the next seven seconds. Bundy went 1 of 2 with four seconds remaining to leave the Dragons up by three.
That opened the door for an Ethan Yancy three as time expired — his attempt failed.
