SEDGWICK COUNTY —A Kansas softball coach accused of sex crimes involving a former player is going to trial.
Last week, 31-year-old Savana King of Wichita was arraigned and a trial was set for January 4, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.
In May, King pleaded not guilty to charges of of aggravated indecent liberties with a child; fondling, criminal sodomy with a child under the age of 14 and unlawful sexual relations, during an arraignment hearing before Judge Kathleen Watson, according to the District Attorney's office.
On January 29, an 18-year-old woman reported that she had been sexually assaulted by her former softball coach Savanah King over several years, between 2021 and 2024, before she reached the age of consent, according to Wichita Police Officer Juan Rebolledo.
Police arrested King and after spending a weekend in jail, she met the requirement of a $250,00 bond and was released from jail.
King played softball for Friends University, according to the school's website.
