Wavern D. Unruh, 86, of Galva, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at the Hillsboro Community Hospital. He was born on November 24, 1937 in Newton, Kansas, to Otis Melvin and Manda J. (Unruh) Unruh.
Wavern attended the Happy Hollow School in rural Galva.
He was a member of the Lone Tree Mennonite Church in rural Galva.
Wavern was a farmer and rancher.
He was united in marriage to Betty Lou Unruh on January 10, 1958 at the Lone Tree Mennonite Church. She preceded him in death on June 2, 1993. Wavern later married Lois Jeanette (Holdeman) Nightingale on August 5, 1994.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Unruh of the home; son, Lonnie D. (Charlene) Unruh of Galva; three sisters, Myrna (Galen) Unruh of Galva, Nada (Carl) Wedel of Galva, and Judy (Dave) Unruh of McPherson; four step grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Wavern was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Betty Unruh; daughter, Joni Lou Unruh; and brother, Donnie Unruh.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, July 21, 2024 at Lone Tree Mennonite Church, Galva. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m., Saturday, July 20, at the Moundridge Funeral Home, with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Suncrest Mennonite Church, Galva.
