
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Three people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday evening.
According to the Reno County Sheriff’s Department 22-year-old Trent Cook of Hutchinson was going north on Yoder Road near US 50 around 8:45 p.m. when he crossed the center line and hit a car driven by 38-year-old Jennifer Walden of Wichita head on. Cook's SUV then caught fire.
Cook was able to get out his vehicle but a passenger Callan Branscom was trapped inside. Fortunately, an officer with the Haven Police Department was close by and arrived on scene where he was able to put the fire out.
Cook told authorities that he had fallen asleep at the wheel.
All three were taken by EMS to Hutchinson Reginal Medical Center for treatment.
As authorities were working that accident a second one occurred at the scene when 62-year-old Robert Holmes of Hutchinson failed to avoid one of the cars in the road and struck it. He was not injured.
