George Robert "Bob" Speice 1938-2025

George Robert “Bob” Speice, 86, of Inman, died April 4, 2025, at Pleasant View Home, Inman. He was born on November 30, 1938, in Ebensburg, PA, to George Randolph and Margaret Alice (Evans) Speice.

Bob graduated from Cambria County High School in Ebensburg, PA, in 1957. He attended Penn State and graduated from Hutchinson Community Junior College. Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force and was part of the 793rd Airforce Squadron stationed in Hutchinson. While enlisted there, he would meet his future wife, LaDonna, at First Christian Church. Bob was an engineer and assisted with sales for multiple boiler companies throughout the country. He retired from Superior Boiler at the age of 78, after over 50 years in the business. Bob loved his family and was a huge supporter of his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He wouldn’t miss cheering them on at their events if he could help it. Bob enjoyed golfing, softball, hunting, fishing, and many other sports in his younger days. He was an avid reader of historical fiction and had traced his family roots back to the early 1700s. After retiring, Bob enjoyed watercolor painting at the Delos V. Smith Senior Citizens Center.  Many of his paintings are of local buildings, family homes, farmsteads, or nature. Bob has been an active member of Crossroad Christian Church, Hutchinson, since 1981.

On June 10, 1961, he married LaDonna McDermott, at First Christian Church, Hutchinson. They shared over 63 years of marriage, during which they enjoyed golfing and country dancing together.

Bob is survived by: his wife, LaDonna Speice of Inman: daughter, Carolyn (Rik) Alspaw of Mulvane; grandchildren, Joshua (Brittany) Alspaw of Shawmut, MT, Nathan Alspaw and Grace Alspaw both of Mulvane; Son, Stuart (Tracy) Speice, grandchildren, Brooke (Kale) Haas and Amanda Speice (Ethan Voboril), all of Inman, Zackary (Kennedy) Speice of Hutchinson; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Missy) Speice of Hollidaysburg, PA; sister, Alice (Charlie) Hilt of Grand Rapids, MI; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2025, at Crossroads Christian Church, 4310 N. Monroe, Hutchinson, with Pastor Kevin Guffey officiating.
