Jonas M Bontrager, age 74, of Hutchinson, peacefully entered God's presence on Tuesday morning, July 23, 2024. Jonas was born in Goshen, Indiana on October 7, 1949, to Melvin and Rebecca (Nisly) Bontrager. Jonas was the second of five children.

Jonas was married to the late Wilma Yoder on December 19, 1970. They had three children, Melody (Carl) Erickson of Buhler, Valerie (Gary) Tomes of Wichita and Clint (Grace) Bontrager of Hutchinson; and eight grandchildren.

On October 22, 2016 Jonas married Regina Beiler of Goshen, Indiana. Regina is the mother of Monica (Marlowe) Yoder of Goshen, Indiana, Roger (Sarah) Beiler of Middlebury, Indiana, Rachel (Andrew) Dustman of Craigville, Indiana, Jeffrey Beiler of Goshen, Indiana and Douglas (Monica) Beiler of Stow, Ohio; and fifteen grandchildren. 

Jonas was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and brother, Glen. He is survived by siblings Edward, Mahlon and Amanda.

Jonas was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He enjoyed farming, raising cattle and serving his community. He also was very skilled at repairing small bailers.   

Jonas served as a minister at Plainview Mennonite Church and was passionate about leading and teaching small groups. One of his greatest joys was sharing his faith, especially with his grandchildren. His greatest and last wish was for all of his family to meet him in heaven.

Jonas's legacy of love, kindness, and servant hood will continue to inspire and comfort those who knew him. His family finds solace in the countless memories he leaves behind.

Friends are invited to visit the family and share memories and condolences on Friday, July 26, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Plainview Mennonite Church, 5610 W. Trail West Road, Hutchinson, KS 67501. The funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, July 27 at Plainview Mennonite Church with a private family burial.
