
Robert Lynn “Bob” Loutzenhiser, 78, died September 18, 2023, at his home. He was born April 6, 1945, in Lyons, to Robert Ansel and Virginia (Poland) Loutzenhiser.
Robert was known as Robert, Lynn, or Bob, depending on your relationship with him. He graduated from Little River High School in 1964. Robert was a talented high school baseball pitcher, who could pitch with either arm. Scouts came to watch this amazing athlete. However, this was during the time of the Vietnam War, and Robert was drafted into the United States Army. During his service, Robert was shot down in enemy lines, and safely hid until he could be found by American soldiers. For his heroism, he was awarded a purple heart.
Upon returning to Kansas, he worked as a machinist for LMC- Lyons Manufacturing Company. After retirement, Robert enjoyed attending the NJCAA basketball tournament in Hutchinson, and cheering on the Hutchinson Junior College basketball and baseball team.
On June 20, 1965, he married Carolyn June Heim, in Mitchell, KS. She died July 14, 2012, after they shared 47 years of marriage.
Robert is survived by: daughter, Lynette Casey (Rick); son, Bryan Loutzenhiser (Jennifer Jackson), all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Makayla, Drew, and Katie; two great-granddaughters; and a sister-in-law, Mary Heim of Hutchinson.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Larry Loutzenhiser; and brother-in-law, Fred Heim.
Graveside service will be 4:00 p.m. Friday, September 22, 2023, at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery, 821 N. Grand, Lyons. Military honors will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
Robert was honored to go on the Kansas Honor Flight. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Kansas Honor Flight, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
