Sheila Irven, a loving and caring soul, has sadly departed from this world. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known her. Sheila's life was characterized by her immense heart, warm personality, and her unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand.

Born on October 4, 1962, in Newton, KS to Carolyn Irene Rutschman and Peter Leo Funk, Sheila grew up surrounded by the love of her family. From a young age, she displayed a remarkable ability to connect with others and make them feel valued. This gift carried with her throughout her life and touched the hearts of many.

During her younger years as a nursing aid, Sheila showed tremendous compassion for those in need. She dedicated herself to caring for others, selflessly providing comfort during their most vulnerable moments. Her nurturing nature extended beyond the healthcare field as well. In an endeavor that charmed both young and old alike, Sheila embarked on an unusual journey as she established a worm farm in Indiana and later in her own garage in Newton. Fondly known as the "Worm Goddess," she showcased her ingenuity and passion for nature.

Sheila's infectious friendliness enveloped those around her. Regardless of whether you were a longtime companion or a complete stranger passing by on the street, she possessed an innate ability to strike up a conversation that would brighten your day. Her genuine interest in people's lives fostered connections that transcended mere acquaintanceship.

True to her nature as both caring and honest, Sheila was never one to shy away from offering her opinion when asked. Her perspective was appreciated by many due to its unique blend of wisdom and wit. If you sought heartfelt advice or an amusing anecdote to brighten your spirits, she never failed to deliver.

Beyond her enriching career and captivating personality, Sheila found solace and joy in various hobbies and interests. Crafting became a beloved pastime, and she delighted in creating intricate wooden earrings that showcased her creative flair. Each piece served as a testament to her meticulous attention to detail and artistic sensibilities.

Among Sheila's proudest accomplishments was being featured in the Harvey County Now for her innovative worm farm in Newton. Her dedication to sustainable practices and her unwavering love for the environment were truly commendable. Through her endeavors, she inspired others to appreciate the interconnectedness of nature and to embrace sustainable living.

Sheila will be remembered with great fondness during the visitation  to be held on February 18, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Petersen Family Funeral Home located at 215 N Main St, Newton, KS 67114. It will be an opportunity for family, friends, and loved ones to gather and share cherished memories of a remarkable individual.

A graveside service will take place on February 19, 2024, starting at 10:00 AM at Whitewater Cemetery located at 10881-11579 SE 72nd St, Whitewater, KS 67154.

Sheila leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will forever be cherished by those who survive her. She is survived by her sisters Valinda Atwater, and Andrea (Mason) DuBois and her life partner Eugene "Gene" Corfman. While words cannot ease the pain of their loss, may they find solace in the memories shared with Sheila and draw strength from the love she bestowed upon them.

As we mourn the passing of Sheila Irven, let us also celebrate the vibrant life she led. Through her acts of kindness, infectious laughter, and unwavering love for others, she has left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her.
